How did you find me?: searched in desperation for "conservative atheists"
Do you like my site?: oh yeah!
Will you visit again?: most definitely
Will you recommend site to others?: my catholic ex-girlfriend will love it!
Do you think I'm insane?: too early to tell. I hope so!

Comments:
Matt, You have no idea how glad I am to have found you and this site! I was beginning to think that I was alone in the world. I'm getting very tired of hanging out in AOL's atheist chat room. There are many fine heathens there but anytime the subject of politics is brought up, I am grossly outnumbered and therefore often ignored when I make my views known. I would have so much to say, but I think you've said it all really. One thing I wish you'd someday include on this site is a chat room. I'm addicted to chatting, and I'd like to swap stories with other conservative atheists. We are brothers-in-arms, you and I. I also spent 4 years in the army and served in the Gulf War. I have a great need to talk with others of like mind so if you please and if you have the time, please email me. Thanks for existing. Tom

Great site, it has a lot of truth to it. I oppose all that say otherwise. Democrats always patronize us for our success and popularity, and envy us for winning the 2000 election, they can't even see the flaws in their own idealism, it is so very sad.

Comments:
I consider myself a "recovering catholic". I went to catholic schools and church until I was 15. Ever since I found out that Santa and the Tooth Fairy were bullshit, I questioned the existence of god/heaven/hell/devil. That is a daunting stance to take as a 4th grader at a catholic school. I do believe however that religion in general is a good thing for a majority of humans as a means of behavior modification and inner peace. I draw the line at fundamentalism, though. That is nothing but harmful...be it christian or muslim.

I am a cultural and political conservative 33yr old male. I am a humanist. I am not a tree hugging granola. I am not a bed wetting liberal Unitarian Universalist with all that "inclusiveness". I absolutely hate political correctness but am NOT a redneck. Thank god (sorry...habit) for the Mexicans here who are doing all of our grunt work...better them than me. If we had a National Sales Tax then we could capture a good bit of their money back...then there wouldn't be all this resentment of them coming here and living off our system........weren't we just talking about religion?

Glad to find you. Please e-mail me with some organizations that think like we do so I can join too. I would like to belong to a group, but just not those liberal pansies the UU's.

Webmaster's Response:
Hmm, I know of no organizations which conform to my eclectic perspective which is one of the reasons I started this web site in 1997. Thank my lack of god for the Internet!

Adultry = Child Molesters = Homosexuality = Bestiality!

Who knowing the judgment of God,
that they which commit such things are worthy of death,
not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them!
How can ye escape the damnation of hell?

Webmaster's Response:
Hmm, Mr. Lineberry obviously had nothing better to do on a cold, rainy Sunday evening in North Carolina's Piedmont Triad than spamming guestbooks of what he assumed were pro-homosexual web sites. One would think that a good Baptist like Marty would be attending Sunday evening church services!

He found my site on a Google search for "guestbook Homosexuality" in which the following result was #109:

The History of Annie Bryant
... After reading it, I found myself in the position of what is now called an "ally" and had to defend the right to be a homosexual and even homosexuality itself. ...
www.compleatheretic.com/pubs/poems/annie.html
He accessed this page on 3 March 2002 at 19:13:19 EST and went from there to my Guestbook Central at 19:13:32 EST. Yes, he spent all of thirteen seconds on his entry point prior to accessing my guestbook from a header link. From the main guestbook page, he accessed "View the Guestbook" at 19:13:46 EST (14 seconds). He returned to the main page and accessed "Sign the Guestbook" at 19:14:10 EST (24 seconds). He submitted his entry at 19:14:54 EST (44 seconds). Finally, he returned to the main page and reaccessed "View the Guestbook" at 19:15:09 EST (15 seconds) in an obvious attempt to see if his entry had posted contrary to the notice on my submission form. His visit lasted about 1 minute, 50 seconds according to my access logs.

Yes, he spent less than two minutes on my rather extensive site simply to post the link to his bible-thumping, piece-of-crap web site and to spew his theory of moral equivalency, and all in response to nothing more than an out-of-context quote regurgitated by a search engine! This is the behavior of an "Internet troll," not a "Netizen." A Google search on "Marty Lineberry" pulls up scores of similar guestbook postings which confirms his troll status.

Apparently, Mr. Lineberry suffers from Christomegalomania, a peculiarly Christian psychological disorder indicated by an overweening, obnoxious, self-important compulsion to "share" the "Good News" with those believed by the sufferer to be either too ignorant or too stupid to know the "Truth." While a wide range of stimuli can provoke an attack of this illness, a profession of atheism has a perversely stimulative effect and generally produces the most severe episodes. This disorder should not be confused with the ordinary proselytization conducted by Christians in conformity with their religion's evangelical nature which, at its worst, is simply bad manners.

The irony of Mr. Lineberry's cyberassault on me is that, while our underlying motivations differ, our views of sexual deviancy probably have more in common than not. While the Google blurb gives the impression that I'm a "gay-rights" supporter, a simple reading of the page would have revealed that these comments were a recounting of the 1978 debut of my poem. My adolescent poem was, thus continues to be, pro-homosexual; I was pro-homosexual in my youth, but I abandoned such a position long ago. This poem serves as a vehicle for my current opposition to the normalization of homosexuality through my introductory comments and the listing of supported pages on my site.

Well, I suppose I can take comfort in the fact that, despite Yankee and Hispanic immigration, my home region's populace retains a contingent of snake-handling types. Hey, I am a "conservative" and a "traditionalist" after all!

Actually, "heretic" has a secular meaning independent of its religious usage; please refer to Webster's Ninth New Collegiate Dictionary (Merriam-Webster Inc., 1985), p. 566:

heretic n 2 : one who dissents from an accepted belief or doctrine: NONCONFORMIST

Comments:
My true pro-life feminist site is way cooler than your site. Also you spelt 'compleat' wrong. Please think about rectifying this or a generation of gullible young pro-lifers will all spell it the same way.

Webmaster's Response:
Actually, "compleat" is a perfectly legitimate spelling, especially so in my usage; please refer to Webster's Ninth New Collegiate Dictionary (Merriam-Webster Inc., 1985), p. 269:

compleat adj [archaic variant of complete in The Compleat Angler (1653) by Izaak Walton] (1526) : COMPLETE 3
  .
  .
  .
complete adj ... 3 : highly proficient <a ~ artist>
When I first started my personal site in March 1997, I had plenty of readily available content in the form of columns, essays, and letters to the editor which I had written over the previous six years. If published in book form, such a collection would be an anthology. Thus I found the metaphor of a virtual book for guiding the design of my site.

The next problem was titling the "book." Given my odd combination of political and (ir)religious views, I realized that I could easily be considered a heretic by other members of whatever group with which I identified. After all, whoever heard of an "economic and social conservative, Republican, moral traditionalist, pro-life, Army veteran, Secular Humanist atheist"!? I decided that any title I developed had to include some form of "heretic" or "heresy."

As I knew that my seemingly contradictory views would no doubt cause much befuddlement and consternation amongst both "God-haters" who couldn't grasp the concept of the "Radical Irreligious Right" and "Bible Thumpers" who couldn't begin to conceive of a "'Godly' godless heathen," I realized that this constituted a perfection of heresy. I further realized that my "book" could serve as a training or how-to manual for other "perfect heretics" and immediately recalled that the first how-to book was Izaak Walton's The Compleat Angler which was an all-inclusive guide to fishing in Britain.

Thus, my personal site became "Matt Wallace's The Compleat Heretic," and I adopted the cybernym and virtual identity of "The Compleat Heretic."

Nice for people to know that not all atheists are Leftists. Usually the few non-theists who aren't Leftists are the libertarian/Objectivist crowd who are that way largely because Ayn Rand said so.

More atheists of a conservative dispostion (if there are any left) need to be influential in the Republican Party to demonstrate that that one doesn't have to be a Bible Beater to hold certain principles.

Very good site! I believe that all racial and ethnic conflicts throughout the world have a common underlying "biological" cause. This biological problem is what is causing the common symptoms of racial and ethnic hatred, segregation, discrimination, separatist movements, genocide, etc. observable in the world today. I have created a site which expresses my views as to how this underlying biological cause results in all the racial and ethnic problems observable worldwide. Please check it out.
